BUS ROUTE ZONE BOUNDARY CHANGES TO BENEFIT MORELAND RESIDENTS

Christine Campbell, MP, Member for Pascoe Vale, today announced that bus travel in Moreland will soon be easier and more affordable, thanks to upcoming travel zone boundary changes.

From 1 November, bus routes between Glenroy Rd and Gaffney St will operate in the Zone 1/2 overlap area. That means that people connecting to bus routes 513 or 534 from Glenroy, Merlynston or Batman train stations will now only require a single zone Metcard.”

“That means full fare bus passengers who used to require a Zone 1+2 Metcard can save up to $5.80 a day, and concession passengers can save up to $2.90 a day.” Ms Campbell said

“The bus fare zones will be better aligned to train and tram fare zones, improving connectivity for those public transport users who travel on different modes, and in some instances, removing the need to purchase a multi-zone fare. Ms Campbell said

Ms Campbell said that buses are becoming an increasingly popular mode of transport.

“Now that you can travel further on a single zone Metcard, we expect the bus will become an even more popular option for local residents.” Ms Campbell said

Traci Stubbs, a local resident who has welcomed the zone change said, “I would like to thank Christine for all the work she has put in to making bus travel easier for myself and others who live in our area. It really means a lot to me that Christine listens to the concerns of the people who live in her electorate”.

John Capuana, another regular user of the service and who found the different zones frustrating, said "The overlay zone change will not only benefit residents within the Moreland Community, but all Public transport users accessing this Bus Route 534 service, with cost savings towards their trip making it affordable travelling and encourages the public to use the service".

“The Brumby Government is taking action to ensure people in Melbourne’s North-West have affordable public transport.” Ms Campbell said

“By revising bus route zone boundaries we are not only making the bus network more consistent and easier to understand, but more people will be able to save money by travelling on a single zone Metcard.” Ms Campbell said

Ms Campbell said that the changes would particularly benefit people travelling to Pascoe Vale and Glenroy.
