RESTORING WAR MEMORIALS

Christine Campbell, MP, Member for Pascoe Vale today announced that Moreland City Council has received a $5,500 State Government grant to update the Coburg war memorial.

This money will be spent to add six citations, namely the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902, Indonesian Confrontation 1963-66, Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq and East Timor, and to also undertake some restorative works.

Ms Campbell said, “Moreland's ex-service community comprises World War II, Korea, Malaya emergency, Indonesian Confrontation, Vietnam, and Gulf War veterans. I am aware of Peace Keepers and Observers, plus some who served in current theatres of operations. Moreland is also home to a number of ageing widows of World War I veterans”.

“The proposed upgrade will be a significant acknowledgement to the ex-service men and women of our community”.

“The Victorian Government aims to commemorate, honour and support veterans in Victoria through a range or initiatives that promote understanding of the
service tendered by veterans in war and peace. By ensuring that war memorials and honour rolls properly reflect the service of local communities and organisations, the sacrifices of Victoria’s veterans can be honoured by both current and future generations”.
