BOOST FOR MULTICULTURAL GROUPS IN PASCOE VALE
Multicultural community groups in Pascoe Vale will benefit from a Brumby Government grant program to strengthen and celebrate cultural diversity.
Christine Campbell today announced that 19 community groups in Pascoe Vale would receive funds from the Community Grants Program to hold festivals and events and to support a number of senior citizen’s clubs.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to strengthen multiculturalism in Victoria and is a proud supporter of multicultural groups and events,” Ms Campbell said.
“We support a wide range of multicultural community groups throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria and this funding reflects our commitment to cater for the evolving needs of our diverse and growing population.”
Funding for groups in this round of the Community Grants Program includes:
• Lebanese Elderly Group - $1,200.00 for Seniors Organisation Support
• Shranish Association of Melbourne - $400.00 for Saint Shmny Festival
• St Oliver’s Italian Senior Citizens Club - $1,150.00 for Seniors Organisation Support
There were also a number of other multicultural groups who received grants for festival and events, as well as organisational support. Grants in Pascoe Vale ranged from $300.000 to $2,400.00
Ms Campbell said Victorians took great pride in their diversity, with the latest grants to provide an important boost for local community groups.
“Through these grants the Brumby Government is showing its commitment to encouraging our multicultural communities to maintain and share their unique identities.” Ms Campbell said.
The Victorian Government has increased funding for the Victorian Multicultural Commission Community Grants Program from $750,000 in 1999 to $4.6 million per year.
