CHRISTINE CAMPBELL CALLS FOR BICYCLE STORAGE CAGE AT GLENROY STATION

Cyclists will be given more incentive to combine riding with catching public transport following a call for a secure bicycle cage to be installed at Glenroy railway station.

Speaking in Parliament, Christine Campbell, Member for Pascoe Vale, called on Lynne Kosky, Minister for Public Transport, to support the provision of a secure bike storage cage at the Glenroy train station.

“Cycling in the Pascoe Vale electorate has experienced a significant increase in recent years”. Ms Campbell said.

“This trend needs to be promoted, and the provision of a secure bicycle cage close to the Glenroy train station would encourage local residents to use public transport combined with cycling. The Glenroy station is an extremely popular station. Many residents would be encouraged to further patronise public transport if this bicycle cage was installed”, Ms Campbell said

Ms Campbell currently has a parliamentary intern working on a cycling strategy for the Pascoe Vale electorate and Moreland.
“When her report is finalised I will provide the Minister and her department with a copy. I understand there are some excellent suggestions in it”, Ms Campell said

In April of last year, the Minister for Public Transport informed the wider community that more cyclists would be able to combine their cycling with public transport use and accelerated the delivery of at least 20 secure bike storage cages at train stations throughout Melbourne and in key regional areas at a cost of $1 million. These 20 new cycle cages will provide around 400 secure new bike spaces for public transport users. Metlink, Connex and V/Line will be working together to provide clear signage and information to assist cyclists and the travelling public to understand where bikes can be taken on public transport.
